Saxony-Anhalt offers very affordable housing compared to the rest of Germany, both in cities such as Magdeburg, Halle, and Dessau, as well as in rural areas. The economy is characterized by a strong SME sector, which accounts for the majority of companies and employs around three-quarters of the workforce.

Important industries include chemicals, pharmaceuticals, automotive suppliers, and mechanical engineering, but new industries such as biotechnology, IT, renewable energies, and logistics are also growing rapidly. Large companies such as Bayer, DHL, Amazon, and Hermes are represented.

Saxony-Anhalt has six UNESCO World Heritage Sites (including Bauhaus Dessau and Luther Memorials), a rich cultural landscape with over 60,000 monuments, numerous museums, theaters, and a wide range of leisure activities. Nature parks, river landscapes, lakes, and the Harz National Park offer a variety of recreational and sporting opportunities.

The Saale-Unstrut region is also known for its wine growing and culinary diversity.
