Non-discriminatory language

Sensitive handling is one of the most important factors in advising and supporting immigrant professionals. Immigrants have often already experienced discrimination based on their origin, religion, or gender. Particular attention should be paid to language in order to provide migration-sensitive advice. Gender-neutral language, for example, includes all people regardless of their biological sex, foreign and self-identifications. In this way, it has an inclusive rather than a discriminatory and exclusive effect.

In the German media, as well as in everyday language use, it can often happen that key words used in connection with integration have a discriminatory effect. The New German Media Makers explain how to avoid these terms and what alternative uses there are in their glossary
