The Realschulabschluss is earned at the end of the tenth school year of lower secondary school. To earn it, students must take an exam. The Realschulabschluss is a prerequisite for attending upper secondary schools, such as Gymnasien, Fachoberschulen, or Berufskollegs.
At an evening secondary school
In Saxony-Anhalt, the Realschule diploma can be earned at evening secondary schools. Classes are held in the evening at regular secondary schools. A Hauptschule diploma is a prerequisite for earning the Realschule diploma. The Realschule diploma is a prerequisite for obtaining the university entrance qualification (Abitur).
