Distance Learning Schools
You can also earn a high school diploma through distance learning schools. There is no attendance requirement, and students learn the material on their own. This type of school is offered by private, state-approved educational institutions. There are costs associated with this option.
Non-Student Examination
Individuals who are not enrolled in school can apply to the Saxony-Anhalt State School Authority for admission to a non-student examination if they meet the requirements. They can then take an exam to earn a Hauptschulabschluss, Realschulabschluss, or Hochschulabschluss without attending school; passing the exam leads to the respective diploma. The application for admission to the exam must be submitted to the State School Authority by December 15.
Adult education centers (VHS) in Saxony-Anhalt, as well as independent educational institutions, offer courses to help students prepare for the non-student exam.
